    1. In 1917, 11-year old Fritz Reynolds is trying to find a good place to set his fox trap in the woods of Linden, NY. He stumbles upon a couple in the woods, thinking that the couple was just looking for some alone time, Fritz hides behind a rock. Instead, Fritz ends up witnessing the brutal murder of the women who ventured into the woods. As Fritz runs away, he is sure that the murderer catches a glimpse of him. Terrified, Fritz keeps the sighting to himself. When the woman is found, she is so bru [...]

    2. Shadow by the Bridge is a good story based on true events in 1917 New York. I could not imagine the horror and turmoil little Fritz went through as he witnessed such a brutal murder of a young lady. And years later, more murders continue. I have never heard about the Linden murders before but I am so fascinated with this book that I found myself trying to find out more about them. I highly recommend this for readers who love a good murder mystery. 5 plus stars.

    3. Quick and enjoyableThis is a historical fiction based on the murders that happened during the early to late 1900s in a small Western NY town. Some of the characters are purely fictional while others are loosely based on the actual people involved. The author does a very good job with creating a visual image of the town and surrounding areas as well as developing relatable characters you would expect to meet in a small 1920s town - the store keepers, the farmers, the town gossiper, the bootlegger [...]

    4. In 1917, a woman was killed by an unknown assailant in Linden, New York. The killing was a sensation because Linden was a quiet rural town where nothing, much less murder, happened. The murder was never solved, but over a period of several years, a number of other murders occurred in Linden all attributed to the same killer. In Shadow by the Bridge the author has fictionalized the story of Linden during the period of 1917 through about 1924. It told through the eyes of a young boy growing over th [...]

    5. One of my favorites!! An old mystery is brought to life through a modern retelling. We see events unfold through the eyes of a young boy. His innocence and that of a small rural community is lost as a series of savage murders unfolds around them. The book doesn’t aim to solve the mystery of who is responsible. However, readers will likely finish the book with a pretty good hunch.

    6. Normally I read historical fiction that is set in exotic places and times, it's rare that I get to read something like this - a story that sweeps you back to a time and place in America, back when you didn't have to lock your doors, you could feel safe walking at night and life was a much slower pace. Kids were able to grow up outside without worrying about being abducted and they would stay outside all day and most of the evening before coming home. And they didn't need tablets, computers and p [...]

    7. Gotta love a good mystery especially a murder mystery in a small town in the middle of nowhere. This story follows Fritz who sees a murder happen before his very eyes however he couldn't identify the killer so there was no reason to say anything so he didn't. He kept it to himself. Years pass and Fritz and the town tried to forget that horrible murder. Welle past repeats itself and murders start haunting the town again. This was a good mysteryI was completely in the dark and I had no idea what w [...]

    8. Shadow By The Bridge is the first published book of Suzanne Zewan and delves into the unsolved murders that occurred 100 years ago in the hamlet of Linden, New York. The author's word choice and use of adjectives, metaphors and similes brought this reader back in time when an entire small community lived in fear and suspicion as the murders remained unsolved- five grisly murders which remain unsolved even today. In capturing the small town atmosphere there were a considerable number of character [...]

    9. This is an okay read. I am so sorry I can't give it more. I had a difficult time getting into this story and that's so unfortunate as I believe the premise is excellent and the book and the author have great potential. I believe one good developmental editor and a thorough line edit could have made this book really good. There was not enough to capture my attention for any long periods of time and it's taken me two-plus months to deliver a promised review. I found myself skipping parts to see wh [...]
