    1. The Grass Roots Press Activist Series of books are great for new readers. The local library keeps it in their "learning English" section but we have been using these for our first grader. She can read the books yet learns new words like "segregation" and "boycott" that many early reader books do not include. We read this particular book for Rosa Parks birthday on Feb 4th. There are a few questions at the end of the books also that basically ask you to review what you just read about.
